THE STORY BEHIND THE BAG
"Ori", to fold. The iconic Japanese bag dates back to the AW09 collection, created following a trip to Japan, and inspired by the traditional Japanese technique of origami applied onto fabric. Originally medium, the bag has found new forms and sizes in a variety of fabrics since its debut a decade ago, however maintaining its organic and simple feel. The button on the edges, another acquired trait of the origami inspiration, allow for the accessory to change shape, hinting also at the Maison's deconstructionist design code.
A JAPANESE BAG IN TRIBUTE TO AIDES
The 25-year-long purpose of raising awareness, embodied initially by the Maison’s AIDS t-shirt in 1994, is revived through the Spring-Summer 2019 MM6 studio collection, created in support of the association AIDES. A renowned French non-profit organization founded in 1984, with the aim of fighting HIV/AIDS and viral hepatitis by offering support to communities and people affected by the condition. Part of the sales will be donated to benefit the non-profit organization’s activities, among which awareness campaigns, family support, home help, legal advisory, help-free phone lines and prevention tools distribution.
