Maison Margiela Line 2 at Maison Margiela Tokyo

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of our first flagship Maison Margiela Tokyo Ebisu at 2-8-13, we present a Line 2 installation on view at the store from 5-15 November.

“UNRAVELLED MEMORY, REWOVEN FUTURE”

Line 2 is our initiative for creative dialogue. For this instalment, Tokyo-based artist Mio Suzuki and historic French tapestry manufacturers Les Manufactures Nationales– Sèvres & Mobilier national collaborate to create an artwork that explores themes of deconstruction, time, and memory through tapestry, titled ”UNRAVELLED MEMORY, REWOVEN FUTURE”.

The process

For the installation, Les Manufactures Nationales curated a selection of 59 contemporary and antique tapestries in Paris, some of which were sourced from flea markets in France and date back nearly 400 years. They were shipped to Mio Suzuki in Tokyo, where, over three months, the artist intricately unravelled and rewove them into a series of pieces installed across the store.

A creative dialogue

The collaboration offers not only a dialogue between two different creative perspectives – Mio Suzuki as artist and Le Mobilier national as collector and material fabricator – but also one of shared relationships to time, culture, and memory.

Tapestry: material exploration

Tapestry is integral to our garment study and material exploration since the 1990s and is continued in our Fall Winter 2026 collection.
